What if the life you are living is a dream of a higher species? What if there is another universe that co-exists with the one you live in and you function in an exact opposite manner in that universe? What is the feeling of déjà vu that you have is nothing but a sneap peak into your past? What if the time never moves ahead and your past, present and future are taking place at the same time? What if every person in the universe is connected and whatever we do or feel affects everything in the universe? What if you can actually teleport yourself into the past or the future and change certain events? These are some of the most intriguing mind-bending thoughts that make you more and more curious about various scientific theories. The theories that you used to study in school and college are just the tip of an iceberg. Science has advanced much further than that and has experimented much more about the way several things function. This surely gives you some food for thought, and maybe a great material to make a movie on! Being a layman, you can’t experiment and find out more about these bizarre scientific theories. The most you can do is use your imagination, optimise the plot and make a movie that makes people question about a lot of things that they encounter on a daily basis. This will keep the audience intrigued and most of the times, on the edge of their seats.
“I think audiences get too comfortable and familiar in today’s movies. They believe everything they’re seeing and hearing. I like to shake that up!” This is what the iconic filmmaker Christopher Nolan said when asked about the nature of his movies. He justifies everything that I am trying to talk about in this blog. People usually get too comfortable while watching a movie, that they use it as a pastime. They are never really into the movie and experiencing it. However, if you confuse the audience and engage them by showing them instances that would play with their mind, they would think even before they blink their eyes! This is what Nolan does with his movies. His famous sci-fi “Inception” is all about teasing the audience. Majority of the viewers cannot understand the movie in a single watching. They need to watch it again and keep pausing multiple times in between to grasp the movie. The idea about adding an idea into a person’s subconscious while he is dreaming itself is so bizarrely beautiful that you need to cope up with the film to know what is going on. His latest flick, “Interstellar” was no less captivating. He used the scientific theories of black hole and dimensions of space to make a movie which was not only a sci-fi but also an emotional drama between a father and a daughter. It was one of those perfect movies in which you see a perfect blend of technology and emotions! Hence, if you are aware about such scientific theories and facts which can play with the minds of the viewers, you should make the most of them to come up with a concept that mesmerises the viewers and makes them question whatever Science they have studied till date!
